The China Study
The China Study
T Colin Campbell, PhD,
paperback, £12.99
Add to basket
An astonishingly brilliant case for a vegan diet from a health perspective. Written by one of the world's most eminent nutritional scientists and cancer experts, with over 300 research papers published, this book is breathtakingly persuasive in its call for the world to go vegan. The China Study is the biggest study in the world on the effects of diet on health and shows that meat and dairy cause cancers; heart disease; obesity; diabetes; and autoimmune diseases. It also exposes the research and medical establishment and suggests why they are so slow to react to the wealth of science showing animal-based diets cause disease and wholegrain plant diets prevent it. It is beautifully written (though fully referenced) in an easy to read style -appealing to the lay person. Sadly, the author supports vivisection (which the VVF does not) but the book is a one-off that all people interested in diet and health should read.

Your Life in Your Hands
Your Life in Your Hands
Professor Jane Plant, paperback, £9.99
Add to basket
Newly updated, this groundbreaking best seller is written by one of the UK's top scientists, who suffered from breast cancer five times before she learned of the relationship between diet (specifically dairy) and the disease. With her friendly and compelling style, Professor Plant shares what she has discovered and experienced in dealing with this illness. She analyses the causes of breast (and prostate) cancer, her explanation of the role of dairy in this disease is fascinating and shocking - and gives very practical solutions for both cancers in the form of seven food factors and five lifestyle factors. Regrettably, there are some references to meat but the book's informative anti-dairy and pro-vegan stances to fight active cancer, make it potentially life saving.
