Viva! and VVF Peak Challenge

STOP PRESS!! Five out of seven of the Viva! & VVF team successfully completed the final 15 peaks in 24 hours on Sunday. It was the most gruelling challenge any of them have undertaken.
It's not too late to sponsor us! Please give generously to help us reach our target of £5000 for the animals.
Imagine, if you can, walking 23.5 miles in just 12 hours. And then include in the equation having to ascend and descend three Yorkshire mountain peaks. I don’t know what it does to you but it scares the life out of me! But then, having done that, walking a further 32 miles in 24 hours just a few weeks later. Oh, and this time it includes climbing all of Wales’s 15 mountain peaks that top 3,000 ft. Insane is the word that comes to mind!
Well the Viva! team who consider wine drinking to be a form of weightlifting, are gonna have a go. They are having sleepless nights at the prospect. Brave or stupid? You decide! You can follow their training on Twitter. And, please, dig deep into your hearts and pocketbooks to support these intrepid warriors! They will be straining to complete both courses but every mile they manage is nothing short of a triumph.
The Viva! & VVF Peaks Challenge takes place on May 8 and July 3-4, 2010. And remember one thing about our intrepid triumvirate - hardened athletes they’re not! They have just a few months to perfect their pecs, accentuate their abs and construct their calves – not a doddle! It’s like Patsy from Ab Fab going to night school to study quantum physics! But the die is cast (sorry, shouldn’t have used either word).
On May 8 they will start the walk of their lives as they disappear steeply upwards into a Yorkshire dawn, borrowing Captain Oates’ famous last words – “We may be some time!” This is a breathtaking (literally) undertaking deserving of magnanimous support. Please, please sponsor them by the mile, by the peak or by the blister. It is mad, it is mindboggling and it is certainly magnificent.
Please pledge whatever you can and all the proceeds will go towards Viva!’s campaigns for the animals. The walk of pain is organised by vegetarian cooperative Lupine Adventures, who learned their craft at Guantanamo Bay (only joking).
If you would like to sponsor our intrepid team contact us on 0117 944 1000 (Mon-Fri, 9am-6pm) use the link above or email Helen (helen@viva.org.uk). Please give generously or they might not do it, denying all us staff a good laugh. And remember, only one has to complete the ordeal for us to shout: “Result!”
